I hope you are inthe best of health and emaan.

in the following daily mail article

It becomes apparent that avoiding items with Pig remains is almost impossible in this day and age. What advice can you give for Muslims in this situation, as most of the above items are everyday neccessities. For example how will we find out which Gloss paint has pig remains in it, to mention just one example. I'm sure even many Masjids will by now have used Gloss paint made from some small portion of the pig.

In the Name of Allah, the Inspirer of Truth.
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

In our day and age of information and labelling, it is not too difficult to source the origin of products. For laymen, they should consult the Scholars and seek their advice when in doubt..

As far as food and consumables are concerned, all products are clearly labelled in the UK, hence it is quite easy to avoid products containing pork extracts such as gelatine.

Likewise calf Insulin can be used in place of pig insulin.

In the case of paints/paintbrushes - again Halal substitutes are available but if inadvertantly, paints/brushes made from pig products are used, the ruling is that once dry, it will not remain  najis. (Impure).  Only if they are touched with a wet hand/clothing, etc will the impurity transfer on to the body/clothes.  To avoid this, one  may wash the walls after the paint has dried. This will render the surface Taahir. (Pure).

Leather - Jackets, shoes, belts, bags etc - One may enquire from stores/supermarkets if not labelled.

And Allah knows Best
Wa Alaykumussalaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
